School attendance is an essential component of success for our students!  We hope that the information below provides rationale as to why consistent attendance is so important.  Now I want to clarify that we do not promote perfect attendance and we know that not only should students stay home if they are ill, but we also realize that families have emergencies as well as family opportunities that are very important.

We are focusing on students and families that are habitually late, fail to call in absences or decide to stay home from school when a student is not ill or unable to attend school. Here are some important reasons why students need to attend school regularly:

  • School success: By attending class regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and take quizzes and tests on time.
  • Achievement: students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who don’t attend school regularly.
  • Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.
  • The importance of education: Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part of educational success, and that it’s important to take your responsibilities seriously including going to school.

I want to be very clear that we want children who are ill to stay home. Being exposed to others and exposing them to germs that create illness is not something we encourage.  It is very important that you contact our school attendance line if your child will be absent or late. If we do not hear from you our concern is for your child’s safety. With our very cold Minnesota winters, it is my greatest fear that a child might miss a bus and be out in the cold in dangerous weather conditions, or worse, be in a dangerous circumstance.

Your assistance and cooperation is greatly appreciated.  We highly value the partnership between home and school and are here to do what is best for your children!  Please contact me if you have any questions.
